As the offensive in Gaza's Rafah widens, Israeli strikes kill at least 37 Palestinians, the majority of whom are in tents.

Deir Al-Balah: According to witnesses, emergency personnel, and hospital officials, Israeli shelling and airstrikes outside the southern Gaza city of Rafah overnight and on Tuesday killed at least 37 people, the majority of whom were taking refuge in tents. The same area was hit days earlier when strikes started a fatal fire in a camp for displaced Palestinians. The military's escalating assault on Rafah has sparked significant international indignation over the tent camp fire, including from some of Israel's closest allies. Furthermore, formal recognition of a Palestinian state was given on Tuesday by Spain, Norway, and Ireland, indicating Israel's increasing isolation on the international scene. The Israeli military speculated that secondary explosions, probably from the weaponry of Palestinian terrorists, may have been the origin of the fire that broke out in the tent camp on Sunday.
