BJP ignores Suresh Gopi's solo act as it attempts to expand into Kerala
With his words and deeds, the actor-turned-politician has repeatedly left his party searching for explanations since becoming the first BJP MP from Kerala.
On June 4, actor Suresh Gopi, a native of Thrissur, wrote history by becoming the first Keralan MP for the BJP. He was then awarded with a position as a Union Minister of State (MoS). However, Gopi has been exploring "uncharted territory" ever since, frequently leaving his party confused.
Shortly after taking office on June 9, the recently elected MP caused controversy when he revealed to Malayalam TV channels in Delhi that he want to be removed from his position. "I'd like to be an MP." I maintained that I was against the Cabinet slot. I had expressed my disinterest in the Cabinet berth to (the party). I anticipate feeling relieved shortly," he remarked.
