Akhilesh Yadav's party in Uttar Pradesh has handed a crushing blow to the BJP, which had won 62 seats on its own in 2019. The party had gained five seats in the last election by working with the BSP.

Based on polling conducted in all 80 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has reported that the Samajwadi Party and the Congress of the INDIA alliance are leading in 34 and 7 Lok Sabha seats, respectively. 35 seats are in the lead for the BJP-led NDA.

The combination of the Samajwadi Party and Congress is currently leading in 40 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA is ahead in 39, in what may prove to be the biggest surprise in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
