LK Advani, a senior BJP leader, was admitted to AIIMS Delhi

New Delhi: On Thursday, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) welcomed Lal Krishna Advani, a senior and seasoned leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Doctors said the BJP leader is stable and being monitored.

On March 30, 2024, President Draupadi Murmu awarded him the Bharat Ratna.
Mr. Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (modern-day Pakistan), and he became a Swayamsevak of the RSS in 1942. From 1986 through 1990, then from 1993 to 1998, and from 2004 to 2005, he presided over the BJP as national president. With the longest tenure as the party's president since its founding in 1980, Mr. Advani held the position.

After almost three decades in parliament, LK Advani was first the
Home Minister and, later, the Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1999-2004).

According to the BJP's official website, Mr. Advani was presumed to be the party's prime ministerial candidate for the general elections that ended on May 16, 2009, since he was the Leader of the Opposition in a parliamentary democracy.

The BJP's Parliamentary Board publicly declared Mr. Advani as their prime ministerial candidate for the 2009 general elections on December 10, 2007. However, Mr. Advani cleared the path for Sushma Swaraj to take over as Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha following the victory of the Congress and its allies in the 2009 national elections.
