Shabana Azmi on the incident at Kangana Airport

Mumbai: Renowned performer Shabana Azmi offered her thoughts on the situation a few days after Kangana Ranaut, a recently elected MP, was reported to have been slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at the Chandigarh airport.

"My feelings for Kangana Ranaut are still intact. But I find it difficult to join the chorus of people who are applauding "the slap." None of us can be safe if security guards start enforcing the law," Shabana wrote in a post on X.

As Kangana was ready to board a flight to Delhi to attend the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) summit, which ended on Friday, the event happened on June 6 at approximately 3:30 p.m.

A CISF constable allegedly gave Kangana a slap when she was traveling to Delhi for the NDA meeting. IPC Sections 321 and 341 have been used to file a formal complaint against the constable; nevertheless, no arrest has taken place.

In a video posted on her official Instagram page shortly after the incident, Kangana described the events and voiced her worries about the "rising terrorism and extremism in Punjab."

Kangana stated in the video, "The media and my well-wishers are calling me a lot. First of all, I'm safe and doing just fine. The incident involving security personnel occurred at the airport in Chandigarh. As soon as I exited the cabin following the security check, a security personnel member from another cabin approached me from the side and began hitting me on the face.

"She (the CIF jawan) told me that she backed the farmers' protest when I questioned her why she did this. My concern is not about safety, but rather about the increasing terrorism and extremism in Punjab and how we should respond to it. She enquired.

The day after the event, a different video showing the officer saying her mother was part of the farmers staging a sit-in protest against the now-repealed agricultural rules went viral.

"Isne byan diya tha na Rs 100-100 ke liye baith ti hai waha pe, ye baithi thi wha pe?" she was overheard asking. I hope you had a great time this time around, Ma'am. Maa ki insult nai huyi sehan.

A number of celebrities responded to the incident, including Mallika Dua and Anupam Kher.
