GHMC steps up anti-mosquito efforts to fight malaria and dengue

Hyderabad: The GHMC's entomology department is conducting extensive anti-mosquito operations to reduce vector-borne infections, focusing on locations with the most dengue cases. In addition to a detailed plan to eradicate insect breeding grounds, over 1,500 workers will be hired to finish the work throughout the 30 rings.

As part of the anti-larval efforts, oil balls have been dropped into water bodies over the past two weeks. Employees in the entomology department cleaned the pond boundaries and sprayed larvicides in tandem with the sanitation department. Additionally, field helpers conducted several inspections in colonies to find and remove stagnation sites.

Additionally, knowledge of the significance of removing water stagnation and properly disposing of garbage is being raised via the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign. These seminars, known as "Friday Dry Day," are led by biology teachers at educational institutions. Additionally, women's self-help groups (SHGs) are being enlisted to disseminate the word in communities such as Charminar, LB Nagar, and others.

Nevertheless, a number of flaws, such as neglected roadside potholes, trash vulnerable sites (GVPs), and unresolved long-standing complaints, are impeding the company's attempt to eradicate mosquitoes this monsoon.
