Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav stated that the Naxalites surrendered before high-ranking police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, expressing dissatisfaction with the atrocities carried out by Maoists against tribal people and their "hollow" Maoist philosophy. He added that they were impressed by the police's rehabilitation program. Two women were active in different wings and outfits under the Gangaloor area committee of Maoists, out of 33 cadres who had surrendered, he added. He claimed that Samo Karma, a Maoist member of Maoist platoon no. 1, and Raju Hemla, also known as Thakur, 35, of PLGA (People's Liberation Guerilla Army) battalion no. 1, were each carrying a prize of Rs 2 lakh.
