Political uproar is caused by the Center's decision to refuse a Kerala minister's visit to Kuwait.

Kochi: In the wake of the fire tragedy in Kuwait that claimed 49 lives, including 23 from the southern state, Kerala's health minister Veena George has been embroiled in a political dispute over the alleged denial by the Center of her request to visit the country on Thursday in her capacity as the official state representative.

Political uproar is caused by the Center's decision to refuse a Kerala minister's visit to Kuwait.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, and the opposition Congress in the state criticized the Center's decision on Friday, while Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Union minister Suresh Gopi supported it.

The request was sent to the Center because the trip needed political approval from the MEA, and in order to expedite the bureaucratic procedure, the state chief secretary and the Kerala resident commission in Delhi were involved, George said
