Pro-Palestinian demonstrators openly display banners in Australia's Parliament House, breaching security.

Melbourne: On Thursday, as a senator resigned from the government over its handling of the Gaza conflict, pro-Palestinian demonstrators broke through security at Australia's Parliament House to raise flags from the roof. The last day of parliamentarians' sessions before a five-week recess was dominated by tensions about Israel's assault against Hamas. After hanging the phrases "war crimes," "genocide," and the Palestinian catchphrase, "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," over the Great Verandah building's façade for almost an hour, the four demonstrators were taken into custody. Sen. Fatima Payman, an Australian federal legislator who was born in Afghanistan and is the only one to have worn a hijab during a sitting, declared inside the building that she had left the ruling Labor Party because she would not follow party policy on Gaza.
