Desperate times call for desperate measures, even if it means tearing up one of a team's most successful starting pairings. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been almost constants at the top of Pakistan's T20I order in recent years, albeit not to great effect, but after two demoralising defeats to begin their T20 World Cup campaign and a barrage of criticism, the skipper made the radical decision to drop himself down the order.

With net run rate also in play, conventional logic would suggest that the former champions would have tried to reach the 107-run target as soon as possible, but their lack of confidence and the whims of the unpredictable Nassau County pitch meant that even against a limited opposition like Canada, they appeared content to stroll over the finish line. The fact that the seven-wicket victory came with barely 15 balls remaining spoke its own story. Pakistan needed to win inside 14 overs to overtake the United States' net run rate, but only managed 28/1 in the Powerplay.
