The UPES Conference Examines Technology Integration in Law School

A symposium on the future of the legal business driven by technological breakthroughs was recently held at UPES, a multifunctional university with its headquarters located in Dehradun. Leading authorities, practitioners, academics, and students convened at the event to examine the implications of technology, talk about the state of the law, and consider how upcoming attorneys might handle this revolutionary time.

The symposium, with the topic "Adapt or Perish," generated lively debates over the direction legal education should take. The conference, which followed a World Cafe model, encouraged lively roundtable conversations that let attendees exchange ideas and viewpoints in a transparent and participatory setting. The conversations mostly revolved around six main themes: reimagining legal education for the digital age, fostering a collaborative ecosystem for innovation in legal education, addressing ethical concerns about using artificial intelligence in legal education, next-generation lawyers embracing technology, and globalizing legal education for a dynamic world.

Senior Advocate Nitin Thakker, President of the Bombay Bar Association, who served as the keynote speaker, intelligently opened the proceedings. With the statement, "Embracing new-age legal tech solutions demands a significant shift in mindset," he emphasized the vital role that technology plays in contemporary legal practice. Technology must be seen as an essential component of their practice and instruction, not just as a tool. The ability to change with technology and the preparedness of law schools to offer dynamic courses will determine the direction of legal education in the future. I have to thank and applaud UPES for being the first to launch this program."
