Broccoli's thick stems are much too frequently thrown away as an ugly leftover that ends up in the garbage or compost. However, since broccoli stems are not only edible but also a rich source of essential elements that can improve your diet overall, this technique is extremely wasteful. 

"The next time you're eating broccoli, consider eating the stem as well as the floret.
