A heatwave from June 11 to June 19 claimed the lives of 192 homeless individuals in Delhi.

According to a survey conducted by the non-governmental organization Centre for Holistic Development, eighty percent of the unclaimed bodies of persons who perished in heatwaves belong to homeless people.

A heatwave from June 11 to June 19 claimed the lives of 192 homeless individuals in Delhi.

This represents the greatest number of heat-related deaths from June 11 to June 19.
According to the report, setting up cooling centers and providing water can be beneficial.
In the last 72 hours, a heatwave in Delhi claimed five lives.
The NGO Centre for Holistic Development reported that between June 11 and June 19, Delhi experienced a heatwave that claimed the lives of 192 homeless persons.
The total number of deaths over the specified time period is at its highest.
Notably, as the nation's capital continues to struggle with a terrible heatwave, five people have perished in Delhi in the last 72 hours. At three hospitals, heatstroke claimed the victims' lives.

Additionally, over 14 deaths in Noida in the last 24 hours were attributed to probable heat stroke, according to the health department.

The NGO's executive director, Sunil Kumar Aledia, stated: "Due to the intense heatwave that struck Delhi between June 11 and June 19, 192 homeless people lost their lives." This concerning figure emphasizes how urgently preventative actions are needed to safeguard one of society's most vulnerable populations."

According to an NGO survey, eighty percent of the unclaimed bodies of heatwave fatalities belong to homeless persons.
According to Aledia, the situation for the homeless have gotten worse due to causes including air pollution, fast industrialization, urbanization, and deforestation, which have raised temperatures.
Notwithstanding the dire circumstances, homeless people usually discover that they are not eligible for government assistance programs like the Deen Dayal National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM-SUH) and the
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), primarily due to the lack of identification documents and a permanent address," the director said.

"The absence of intermediary housing options or financial assistance leaves many with no choice but to live on the streets," Aledia stated.

"Solutions should include establishing cooling centres, ensuring adequate shelter capacity, distributing water, and addressing the underlying causes of homelessness through supportive housing and services," he stated.
