A part of me felt scared: 'I Am: Celine Dion' documentary director Irene Taylor

Irene Taylor, an Oscar nominee from New Delhi, admits that she initially "panicked" when approached to shoot a documentary about a star as well-known as Celine Dion, but she ultimately decided to take on the project after getting to know the singer.

A touching depiction of the iconic performer overcoming a rare autoimmune neurological illness known as Stiff-Person Syndrome, "I Am: Celine Dion" is a 1.42-hour documentary. On Tuesday, it became available for viewing on Prime Video.

The director claimed that she didn't decide to helm the picture until she grew to love Dion. Taylor's most well-known works include "The Final Inch," which was nominated for an Academy Award and tells the story of the global campaign to end polio, and "Hear and Now," a documentary biography that follows her deaf parents through a difficult implant procedure.

"Since I had never made a movie about a celebrity before, I was a little scared. I'd never been particularly driven to do it. "What am I going to do?" crossed my mind. Simply accompany her on a tour? Does that seem intriguing? I'm not entirely sure.

But after getting to know her, I felt that she would be genuine with me, therefore I realized I really liked her. Thus, I consented to join the project and produce the movie," Taylor said in an interview with PTI.

The film's creators claim that "I Am: Celine Dion" offers an unvarnished and candid behind-the-scenes peek into the legendary singer's battle with the illness that has changed her life and impaired her singing.

When she began filming the documentary, Dion—who is known for her strong ballads "That's The Way It Is," "My Heart Will Go On," "The Power of Love," and "I'm Alive"—was already ailing. And just before they began filming, Taylor was informed of this by the singer and her management group.
