Actor Suriya accused the Tamil Nadu government of "perpetuating" alcohol addiction in the state after the death toll from the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy increased to 48 on Friday. He demanded the immediate adoption of "long-term plans" to avert such situations.
The actor claimed that the amount of fatalities in a single occurrence was "unimaginable," "even during cyclones, rains, or floods," and that the "cries of the affected send chills down the spine" in a letter published in Tamil on social media.
