Dead baby snake found in lunch; Maharashtra officials investigate.

Sangli: In western Maharashtra's Sangli district, an Anganwadi, or government-run nursery school, reportedly discovered a small, dead snake in a packet provided as part of the midday meal program for kids between the ages of six months and three years. This led the authorities to begin an investigation.

According to State Anganwadi Workers' Union vice-president Anandi Bhosale, the event was reported by a child's parents in Palus on Monday.

Congress politician and Palus-Kadegaon MLA Vishwajeet Kadam brought up the matter in the state legislative assembly during the current monsoon session, describing it as a "serious" event. He insisted on a thorough investigation of the incident and prosecution of those involved.

According to district officials, the parents photographed the dead snake and shared the picture to the nearby Anganwadi Sevika (worker) before disposing of it.

"At Anganwadis, children between the ages of six months and three years are given midday meal packets, which are a premix of dal khichadi. Families receive these packets when they get at the Anganwadi. Palus Anganwadi personnel delivered food packs on Monday. One child's parents reported finding a small, dead snake inside the envelope.
