Does the Annamalai factor not work? BJP fails to score a perfect 2014, BJP's state chief Annamalai is lagging behind in Coimbatore. Several other well-known NDA contenders are trailing, including O Panneerselvam, the former chief minister of Ramanathapuram.
In the contest for Tamil Nadu's 39 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP was defeated. The DMK-led INDIA alliance won all 39 seats handily, defying exit poll predictions that indicated the BJP would gain three to five seats in the state.
Puducherry was also won by the alliance. The only other time the BJP has won in the state was in Kanniyakumari in 2014 under Pon Radhakrishnan. The party's percentage of the vote fell to 3.66 percent by 2019.
