Haymitch's story will be told in "The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping."

The Sunrise on the Reaping will return to Panem 24 years before The Hunger Games, in contrast to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is set 64 years before the events of the first trilogy. The 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, will be the main focus. Haymitch Abernathy of District 12 was declared the winner.

"David Hume's concept of implicit submission and, in his words, 'the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,' inspired me to write Sunrise on the Reaping," Collins said in a statement. "A closer examination of the employment of propaganda and the influence of those in charge of the narrative was also made possible by the story. I find myself asking myself "Real or not real?" more and more frequently. 

Lionsgate has already stated that plans to release the prequel in theaters will coincide with the publication of the book. There are conversations underway for Francis Lawrence, the director of the previous four Hunger Games films, to take back the helm. "I'm thrilled to be working with Adam and the team as we bring this next story to theaters in 2026. Lionsgate has been a wonderful home and partner for The Hunger Games franchise from the beginning," Collins went on.

All four of Collins' Hunger Games books have been sold in excess of 100 million copies, and the movies have brought in over $3.3 billion at the global box office. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, and other celebrities have all been a part of the stunning ensemble.
