New Delhi: The Center's decision to remove grace marks for 1,563 students did little to allay the fears of the large number of medical applicants demanding a retest of the NEET-UG 2024, which has been marred by allegations of fraud, paper leaks, and a sharp climb in the merit list.

Protests across the nation have been organized by student organizations and the youth wings of various political parties to voice their worries over purported anomalies in the renowned exam, in which 67 students achieved an extraordinary perfect score of 720—a record in the history of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Many students claim to have lost faith in the way the exam is being conducted in light of the numerous instances of paper leaks and other irregularities that are coming in. While a significant number of people believe that the retest option offered to 1,563 students is just a "eyewash," others call for a comprehensive investigation into the claims of the paper leak.

"A selective retest of 1,563 students will not be sufficient to counterbalance the inflation in marks." Revaluing each student's scores will be beneficial, in my opinion; if not, there should be a universal retest.
