"No Goodbyes": Staff Member Recalls Unexpected Terminations Impacting 80% of the Group

In a heartfelt post, Reddit user @AnonymousEmployee123 talked about a recent layoff at his place of employment. The post, which has received over 9,400 upvotes, describes the impersonal method in which a startling 80% of his crew was let go. The user brings up the difficulty of saying farewell to coworkers.
The Reddit member stated, "There was no last contact between the team." He also brought attention to the personal hardships that his former coworkers were facing, saying things like, "My boss has two kids to support, another colleague recently bought a house and relocated for the job, and someone else had just gotten married."

In his message, the social media user acknowledged that, considering his work habits, he was surprised that he had not been fired. "I slack off, do the bare minimum, always take an hour+ for lunch, show up 1/2 days in the office when I feel like it (3 days min required), and I never show up on time," he admitted. It's amazing how everything worked out today. I've never experienced such high levels of stress at work."

In the now-viral message, users expressed their shame over being kept. "Even though I still intend to leave, their presence makes me feel as though I owe them something, which makes me feel worse since maybe one of them should have stayed over me. I'm not sure what to do at this point."
