Afghanistan's 2024 T20 World Cup campaign came to an abrupt end on Thursday as they were soundly defeated by South Africa in the semifinals. Notwithstanding the semifinal setback, the team has performed admirably the entire competition. They defeated Australia and New Zealand, who came into the event as the team's favorites, handily their route to the semifinals.

Following their departure, Skipper Rashid Khan sent a moving statement on X, the original name of Twitter. "We will never forget the #T20WorldCup!"
