Six arrested after single mother publicly thrashed in Meghalaya affair.

Shillong: On Thursday, police reported that a woman had been publicly thrashed by her relatives for having an affair. The event took place in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills area, and a video of it went viral on social media.
According to reports, six people were taken into custody in relation to the incident that took place in Dadenggre sub-division's Lower Teksagre village on Tuesday.
The woman, a mid-20s single mother, received a summons to her village's kangaroo court. They said that afterwards, in front of an onlooker throng, she was thrashed with sticks after being hauled by her hair by four guys.
A video of the entire incident was recorded and went viral on social media, sparking outrage.
Six people, all of whom were her close relatives, were taken into custody on Wednesday within hours of the video going public, according to Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma.
"While the police picked up two individuals from the village, the others turned themselves in. "They have been returned to the town of the district headquarters," he declared.
According to authorities, the State Women's Commission has also taken suo-moto cognizance of the occurrence and sent a team to speak with the victim.
