A friend recently inquired about my knowledge of Kshitish Chandra Neogy (1888-1970). I did, but it was really basic. It is astonishing how little is known about him and how little has been written about someone who was once so significant. From August 15, 1947, until April 8, 1950, he served in the first Cabinet of Independent India. He will appear as Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation in the majority of lists. Neogy played a part in the planning of Delhi's Nizamuddin, Jangpura, Lodhi Colony, and Khan Market in the years just after independence. What took place on 8 April 1950?
