It would seem like a fun way to kill time on a flight to sip a drink while floating through the skies. But according to recent studies, drinking alcohol while flying may really put your heart health at danger.
The results of the study, which were published in the pulmonary journal Thorax, showed that drinking alcohol before a flight can lower blood oxygen levels (SpO2) and increase heart rate over an extended amount of time. Higher alcohol consumption may exacerbate this effect, particularly in elderly passengers or those with pre-existing medical illnesses such as heart or lung problems, suggests Dr. V.
