After its engine catches fire, a 179-person Air India Express flight headed for Kochi makes an emergency landing in Bengaluru. On May 18, an Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Kochi was forced to make an emergency landing due to a fire in its right engine after takeoff. Six crew members and 179 passengers from Bengaluru were on the flight, and no injuries were recorded. According to sources, the Air Traffic Controller was notified by crew members, which resulted in the airport declaring a major emergency. At 11:12 p.m., shortly after the emergency landing, the airport's fire engines put out the fire. The Kempegowda International Airport is operated by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), which released the following statement: "On May 18, 2024, IX 1132 from Bengaluru to Kochi  made an emergency landing at Bengaluru airport at 11:12 pm, due to a reported fire in one of the engines"
