Delhi water crisis worsens; Atishi starts indefinite hunger strike.

New Delhi: To further press her demand for more water from Haryana, Delhi Water Minister Atishi launched an indefinite hunger strike on Friday in Bhogal, south Delhi. Atishi's fast was initiated in the presence of Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, and wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal.

The Chief Minister, who is presently being held in Tihar jail, wrote a letter that Sunita Kejriwal read out, expressing optimism that Atishi's "tapasya" will be successful.

The Chief Minister expressed his profound grief at witnessing the suffering of those who are experiencing a water scarcity under the prolonged extreme heat wave on television.

"It's part of our culture to give the thirsty water." Water is supplied to Delhi by neighboring States. We thought that neighboring states would provide support in this extreme heat. Haryana, however, decreased Delhi's water share. He made reference to the BJP, which is in control in Haryana, saying, "Even though there are governments of different parties in the two States, this is the time for politics over water."

Earlier, Atishi paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before traveling to Bhogal with Sunita Kejriwal, Singh, Bharadwaj, and other leaders. Delhi is experiencing extreme heat, and people's need for water has grown. People require more water at these periods, yet supplies are limited. Atishi declared as she started her indefinite fast that all of the water in Delhi originates from its neighboring States.

She said that Delhi was not receiving enough water and that her requests for assistance in writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Haryana administration had been ignored. I can no longer bear to observe the suffering of men and women, so I must begin an indefinite hunger strike.
