Do you think that Ivy League admissions officers look for the ideal candidate? In actuality, perfection isn't really necessary. Many high school students fall for this pervasive disinformation because they are confused about the Ivy League admissions process. This is exacerbated by the renownedly opaque admissions procedures of these prestigious universities.
Many times, applicants think they have the best chance if they have flawless test results, stellar grades, lots of extracurricular activities, and a well-written essay. But that's not the complete picture.
I tell our kids to put their efforts into selecting the best college for them, regardless of whether it's an Ivy League institution. A fulfilling university life can be achieved by matching your aims and aspirations with a multitude of exceptional universities across the globe.
Having stated that, I would like to share with you some knowledge I've gained from my own experiences applying to Ivy League schools and my subsequent success:
Admissions officers at Ivy League universities DO NOT look for flawless students.
They look for students who can make a major difference in their communities and stand out from the crowd by pursuing their passions and turning large aspirations into even bigger realities. They respect tenacity and the capacity to grow from failures. Therefore, discuss how your failure helped you achieve success, even if it means failing before succeeding. They use this method to identify future modest leaders who will bring success and recognition to their university and who will share their expertise to assist fellow students in reaching their objectives.
