India is the only one of the top 5 steel-producing nations in the world to witness production growth; the US and China observe declines.
Out of the top five steel-producing countries in the world, India is the only one whose production increased in April while the other four saw declines of up to 7%. China, the world leader in steel production, saw a 7% year-over-year decline in April output to 85.9 million tonnes, according to an ET report by Nikita Periwal. China's production from January to April of this year was 343.7 million tons, a 3% decrease from 2023, according to World Steel Association data. The production of steel in India, the world's second-largest producer, increased by 3.6% in April to reach 12.1 million tons. Between January and April of this year, the nation produced 49.5 million tons of steel, demonstrating an excellent 8.5% gain in output.
