Ju Wenjun and Magnus Carlsen win Norway Chess 2024.

Stavanger: As the final round came to a close, Magnus Carlsen and Ju Wenjun secured the titles of Norway Chess 2024 in both the men's and women's categories.

After Fabiano Caruana and Magnus Carlsen drew their classical game, an Armageddon tie-breaker was used to determine the winner. After defeating Caruana, Carlsen earned at least a share of the top spot in the competition; the outcome of the match between Hikaru Nakamura and Praggnanandhaa R would have to be determined.

Although Nakamura needed to win to take first place, the match ended in a tie. After winning the tiebreak match, the 18-year-old chess prodigy Praggnanandhaa concluded his debut at Norway Chess in third place, just behind Nakamura.

The Armageddon was won by Alireza Firouzja in their game against Ding Liren, which also ended in a draw.

Carlsen has won his sixth Norway Chess title with these outcomes. The home country hero has never participated in many traditional events, therefore this is a major win for him.

Ju Wenjun made history in the women's division by winning the championship in the competition's first year. She overcame Lei Tingjie, a challenger for the World Championship, and her fellow Chinese national.
