On Wednesday, a heartbreaking event unfolded as a fierce fire tore through a building located in Kuwait's southern Mangaf district, where Indian workers resided. The blaze claimed the lives of at least 40 Indians and caused injuries to many others. Reports suggest that the fire started in a kitchen on a lower floor, igniting early in the morning and rapidly spreading throughout the structure, trapping numerous people within its walls.

As per Reuters, Kuwait's deputy prime minister officially confirmed the loss of 41 lives in the tragic incident.

The building, which accommodated approximately 195 laborers, including individuals from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, is owned by the NBTC group, under the proprietorship of Malayali businessman KG Abraham, as per reports from Onmanorama.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed profound shock over the incident, mentioning that the Indian ambassador has promptly visited the camp.

"Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait city. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and over 50 have been hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information," shared Jaishankar on X.

He extended his deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives and wished for the swift and complete recovery of those who sustained injuries. Jaishankar assured that the Indian Embassy would extend its fullest assistance to all those affected by this distressing event.
