A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept S. Jaishankar in his cabinet throughout his historic third term, Jaishankar assumed leadership as the External Affairs Minister today.

Jaishankar, 69, was one of the top BJP officials who kept their ministries from the previous government, along with Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, and Nirmala Sitharaman.

"Receiving the duty of leading the Ministry of External Affairs is a great honor. This ministry did quite well in the previous term. We successfully led the G20. The issues posed by COVID-19, such as vaccination shortages, were faced by us. Crucial activities like Operation Ganga and Operation Kaveri were centered around us as well. During the past ten years, this ministry led by Prime Minister Modi has become a very people-centric ministry. You can see that in terms of our improved passport services, and community welfare fund support that we give to Indians abroad...," S Jaishankar said.

In his second term, S. Jaishankar's top responsibilities are anticipated to be handling issues brought on by China's bullying tactics along the border, safeguarding India's interests in light of the current state of affairs in West Asia, and the conflict in Ukraine.

"A government being elected three times in a row is a huge deal in any nation, but especially in a democracy. Thus, the world will undoubtedly perceive India as having great political stability right now. Regarding China and Pakistan, there are differences in both the issues and the relationships with those nations. In relation to China, our priorities will be resolving the border disputes and with Pakistan, we would want to find a solution to the issue of years-old cross-border terrorism..," Jaishankar said on India's relationship with Pakistan and China for the next 5 years.
