Rajesh Das, a former DGP of Tamil Nadu, is arrested

Chennai: According to authorities, former Tamil Nadu special DGP Rajesh Das was detained on Friday for trespassing and intimidating people after his estranged wife Beela Venkatesan filed a complaint. The state energy secretary, Venkatesan, had claimed that on May 18, after attacking the security officer, Das and his friends had broken into her home at Thaiyur on the outskirts of the city. According to a police spokesman, Das has been taken into custody in relation to Venkatesan's Monday plaint. Das was found guilty of sexually harassing a junior female IPS officer by a Villupuram court last year. Das had been special DGP during the previous AIADMK government. He had received a three-year prison sentence. In a current directive, the Supreme Court had provided him temporary relief -- a reprieve from arrest.
