New Delhi: Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, is among the first honored guests to arrive in New Delhi for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in event on Sunday.

Muktesh Pardeshi, Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs (Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs), met Hasina at the airport as she landed in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon.

The MEA stated, "This visit by one of our most important partners will further strengthen the close and deep-rooted bonds of friendship between India and Bangladesh." Hasina was also among the first international dignitaries to congratulate PM Modi on his victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday, which was spearheaded by the BJP-led NDA.

When PM Modi was sworn in in 2019, President Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh was there because Hasina was unable to attend in person due to an earlier commitment.

Along with Hasina, a number of important figures from India's neighboring countries and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) will be present for PM Modi's and the Council of Ministers' induction ceremony, which is set for this Sunday night.

Among them are Presidents Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka, Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives, Ahmed Afif of the Seychelles, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth of Mauritius, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, of Nepal, and Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan.


The politicians will attend a banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening, hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, in addition to taking part in the swearing-in event.
