The star who endured hardship before becoming a storm

Another politician has had a change in fortune as TDP president Chandrababu Naidu returns to power in Andhra Pradesh following five years and two months in prison for his alleged involvement in a scheme. Film star Pawan Kalyan has finally succeeded in politics after more than ten years of trying.

Along with Naidu, the head of the Jana Sena Party (JSP) was sworn in as a minister today in the Andhra Pradesh assembly. Rumor has it that Pawan Kalyan will become the deputy chief minister. As a constituent of the TDP-BJP coalition, Kalyan's party secured 21 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats.

The quantity of seats that JSP has secured is a significant accomplishment for Kalyan, who has long tried to establish himself in the political scene. At a gathering of NDA members following the poll results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Kalyan, stating, "Yeh Pawan nahi hai, aandhi hai (he is not air, but a storm)."

In the Telugu cinema business, Kalyan—whose real name is Konidela Kalyan Babu—is a megastar. The popular actor Chiranjeevi, a former Union minister, is his younger brother. He made his feature film debut in 1996 with "Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi" and has subsequently produced other successful films. He holds a black belt in karate and is referred to by his supporters as a "power star" because of his action scenes and portrayals as a vigilante and rebel.
