AR Rahman on India's Cannes Presentation: Younger Generation More Insightful, Skillful in Storytelling

A R Rahman, the music composer from New Delhi, stresses that talent should transcend geographical boundaries. He underscores the significance of young Indian artists like Cannes winner Payal Kapadia, who are attuned to modern trends, in internationalizing narratives originating from India.

Kapadia, a Film & Television Institute of India alumna, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian filmmaker to win the Grand Prix award for "All We Imagine as Light" at the Cannes Film Festival. This Malayalam-Hindi collaboration between India and France marked the return of an Indian director to the main competition section of the esteemed European event after a hiatus of 30 years.

"The perspective of young people has shifted. They are increasingly perceptive and discerning in their choices of stories. This is advantageous provided we highlight diverse and uplifting narratives about India, moving away from focusing solely on poverty."
