Budget 2024: Government backs 2 crore rural homes as part of a housing project for the middle class

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman teased the middle class on Thursday, announcing that the government will introduce a housing project to enable people living in slums or rented housing to purchase or construct their own homes in an effort to win over voters ahead of the 2018 general elections. In her interim Budget statement, the Finance Minister stated, "Our Government will launch a scheme to help deserving sections of the middle class 'living in rented houses, or slums, or chawls and unauthorized colonies' to buy or build their own houses."
