The Delhi Congress is attempting to change its direction and get ready for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections as it accepts its loss in the three Lok Sabha seats it ran in Delhi, Northeast and Northwest Delhi, and Chandni Chowk.

The AAP won 62 of the 70 seats it contested in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, while the BJP won 8 of the 67 seats it ran for. The Congress did not win any of the 66 seats it ran for. In addition, the Congress-AAP coalition did not result in a victory in any of the seven Lok Sabha seats this year; the BJP won all seven.


The current goal of senior Delhi Congress officials is to motivate their grassroots organizers for the upcoming election in 2019.

"I have put my best effort to fulfill my responsibilities," Devender Yadav, who took over as interim head of the DPCC after Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the position and later joined the BJP, said to The globalchronical. The leadership must now determine whether they want me to stay on or if someone else should step up.

Head of the Congress coordination committee Subhash Chopra said, "There were many issues faced during coordination and several underlying reasons" for why the AAP-Congress coalition did not work in Delhi. The DPCC will address these at a press briefing in the near future.

When asked if they will stick together for the Delhi Assembly elections, leaders of the AAP and Congress said they would make a decision after consulting with the high command. "At this point, we are unsure of the alliance's benefits and drawbacks. Before a judgment is reached, these issues need to be further considered, Yadav continued.

The Congress typically goes through a protracted selection process before deciding on its candidates for office. According to sources, surveys will be conducted in each assembly constituency with a sample size of 30,000–40,000 individuals. Following the shortlisting of names, many rounds of talks will determine the final name.

"In the coming week, we will meet with ground in-charges to analyze what went wrong during the Lok Sabha elections and hold review meetings on that topic. Planning for the assembly elections will soon begin. In order to give us enough time to campaign, efforts will be made to shortlist and announce candidates early, according to Yadav.
