Fearing a loss in the Lok Sabha, the BJP-Sena government postpones the Nagpur-Goa highway project.

Work on the 802-kilometer greenfield highway project connecting Nagpur and Goa has reportedly been put on hold by the Maharashtra government until after the Assembly elections later this year, following the defeat of the proposed route in Lok Sabha seats and farmer protests. The anticipated cost of the project to the state exchequer is Rs 80,000 crore.

"According to reports, protests are taking place in every district by farmers and other project affected citizens. The administration has been advised not to purchase any land for the next three to four months. The fate of this project would be decided by the incoming government following the Assembly elections (in October), a senior government official with knowledge of the initiative informed The Indian Express.
