Late on Friday night, Magnus Carlsen emerged victorious in the Norway Chess 2024 competition, having used white pieces to overcome Fabiano Caruana in the Armageddon. Before Caruana gave up, the two had completed 52 moves in the Armageddon style. With a threefold repeat on the board, their traditional game had drifted into a draw after twenty-five moves.

In the classical section, Praggnanandhaa held World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura to a draw, confirming Carlsen's triumph. In the Armageddon format, Praggnanandhaa made a comeback and defeated Nakamura, delivering the American his second loss in as many days.
