IRCTC debunks e-ticket purchase limitation rumors.

Hyderabad: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has responded to rumors going around social media about restrictions on e-ticket bookings. The IRCTC claims that any information found on social media is false and misleading, and that reservations made on their website strictly follow Railway Board Guidelines. "The news in circulation on social media about restriction in the booking of e-tickets due to different surname is false and misleading," the IRCTC tweeted.

Users can use their User ID to book tickets for friends, family, and relations, the IRCTC highlighted. In addition, people are able to reserve a maximum of 12 tickets per month. If at least one passenger on the ticket is Aadhaar-authenticated, the monthly restriction for users with Aadhaar authentication is increased to 24 tickets.

Users are also cautioned by the IRCTC that tickets purchased using personal User IDs are solely meant for personal use. Section 143 of the Railways Act 1989 prohibits using these tickets for commercial reasons, and doing so could result in legal action. The group asked people to stop disseminating misleading information and to only trust official sources for up-to-date information.
