The new Naidu: The TDP chief's strategy for staging his return

With just six months to go before Andhra Pradesh's simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader N Chandrababu Naidu made an impassioned speech to supporters at a rally in Kurnool in November of last year. Andhra Pradesh won't see growth unless you send me and my party to the Assembly. "If not, this will be my final election," he declared.

Many saw the desperation of a man who was down and out and, at seventy-three, probably staring at the end of his political career, in the appeal that came at the conclusion of a turbulent five years for Naidu and his party.
