Chennai: In a unanimous vote, the Tamil Nadu Assembly rejected the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) and called on the federal government to do away with it, allowing state governments to continue admitting medical students based on their class 12 grades as they had done before to NEET's introduction.

In the midst of controversy surrounding a leaked document from the NEET-UG 2024 exam and the abrupt cancellation of the NEET-PG 2024 exam, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin introduced the resolution.

The resolution was backed by a number of regional groups, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

K. Kanimozhi, a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), had reaffirmed the call to "exempt" Tamil Nadu from the National Testing Agency's (NTA) NEET, which is administered for medical admissions nationwide.


Tamil Nadu has made it clear time and time again that it does not want NEET. It is now established that the NEET exam is unfair, and students are suffering greatly as a result of it, according to Kanimozhi.
