Sam Altman, the CEO of Openi AI, and Oliver Mulherin, his business partner, plan to give most of their income away to charitable causes. They endorsed the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic organization started by Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. Established in 2010, The Giving Pledge encourages affluent individuals to donate the bulk of their fortune to charitable organizations. Oliver Mulherin and Sam Altman wrote to thank you in the May 18 Pledge letter. "If it weren't for the countless people who established the social structure that allowed us to get here—their ingenuity, hard effort, generosity, and determination to bettering their lot in life—we would not be making this commitment. We are incredibly grateful, pledge to give back, and try our best to raise the scaffolding a little higher, but that is all we can do," they added.
