Shabana Azmi responds to Kangana Ranaut's support after the airport slap incident

Shabana Azmi is renowned for making candid and unapologetically spoken remarks about politics, society, and film. The seasoned performer had just denounced the Chandigarh airport incident in which actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut was smacked by a female CISF constable. In a recent interview with Times Now, Shabana expressed her tremendous empathy for the cause, even though she and Kangana have different ideologies.

The former Rajya Sabha MP expressed her strong opinion on the matter when asked if she supported the Mandi Lok Sabha MP (Member of Parliament) in the slap row. Fighting for what is right should never be hindered by one's personal philosophy. In Parliament, I was the only one to voice my opinion that Mee Nathuram Godse shouldn't be prohibited. Since the Censor Board is the sole body with the capacity to prohibit anything, it had every right to be staged. The way a principle is applied, even when you vehemently disagree with its content, is the real litmus test.

Earlier, Kangana tweeted, "I have no love lost for #Kangana Ranaut," denouncing the event in which the actor was smacked by CISF soldiers for words he made during a farmer's protest. But I can't see myself joining this chorus of enjoying "the slap". None of us can be safe if security guards start abusing their power to enforce the law."
