The June edition of the Joint Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and University Grants Commission National Eligibility test has been postponed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) amid a massive outcry on Friday over purported irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG test and the cancellation of the UGC-NET entrance exam. The Joint CSIR-UGC-NET is an exam used to assess candidates for PhD admission in science courses as well as eligibility for junior research fellowships.A strict law to stop malpractices and irregularities in competitive examinations was announced by the Center on Friday. For those found guilty of these offenses, the legislation stipulates severe punishments that might include a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to ₹1 crore.
