Of the two female Cabinet members in the new Modi government, who is Annapurna Devi?
This will be important in the Jharkhand elections later this year because the BJP leader from Jharkhand is known to have influence in all six Assembly segments in Koderma, her parliamentary seat.
The 1998 decision of Annapurna Devi to enter politics was not one over which she had much control. It transpired following the passing of her spouse, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member Ramesh Yadav. She hasn't looked back since, and on Sunday the Koderma MP took the oath of office as a Union Minister in the third Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the previous Modi administration, she served as the Union Minister of State for Education starting in 2021.
Devi, 55, is one of the two female Cabinet members in addition to Nirmala Sitharaman and one of seven women in the new Council of members. She was one of the eight Jharkhand-based BJP candidates who prevailed. Her margin of victory in Koderma over CPI(ML) Liberation's Vinod Kumar Singh
